ADA MAY KING BECK

1924-2014

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Ada May King Beck, passed away on 19 January 2014 at 89 years of age. Born 20 May 1924, in Champaign, Illinois, to George Edward King and Lillian Emma Weeks, Ada was raised in Champaign, Illinois; Chazy, New York; Rexburg, Idaho; and Garland, Utah.  She graduated from Bear River High School in 1942 and worked as a secretary for various businesses and the federal and Utah state governments. She retired as a secretary for the Utah State Board of Education. During WWII, she lived at the historic Beehive House in Salt Lake City. Following the war, she married returning veteran Clifford Calvert Beck of Magna, Utah in the Salt Lake Temple in 1946. Six children, all boys, joined their family. Ada May was an active and faithful member of the LDS Spencer Ward, Magna Utah Stake where she served in many callings, including: Ward Primary President, Cub and Blazer Scout Leader, and Gospel Doctrine and Relief Society teacher. She also served twice as PTA President of Magna Elementary School and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.  She loved her associations at the Magna Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed seeing annual Magna Fourth of July parades from her home on Magna's Main Street. Loving to travel to see her family in various parts of the United States, Ada especially enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia with Clifford before his passing in 2004.  She loved writing letters, journaling and reading, and collecting souvenirsa�"especially anything with butterflies.  An accomplished seamstress, she loved crocheting and giving away hundreds of beautiful afghan-style throw blankets over her lifetime. In 2009, Ada suffered a stroke and thereafter lived at the Copper View Care Center near her home in Magna.  Special gratitude and appreciation is expressed to Bobbi Dean and Belinda Mitchell, and many others, for their care and many kindnesses.  In 2013, she lived at the Avalon West Rehabilitation Center in Taylorsville. Ada is survived by five of her six sons and their families:  Robert Stephen (Laura Jensen) Beck, Dennis Gary (Marsha Garside) Beck, Gordon Stanley (Michele Johnson) Beck, David Reed (Mary Ann Evans) Beck and Clifford Kelly (Ilene Anderson) Beck.  She is also survived by her sister, Elna Angela King Stephenson, of Layton, Utah, and by many friends, relatives, and loved ones.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, and by her parents, George and Lillian King, and by her step-sister Helen King, and by a special granddaughter, Heidi Beck and by her fifth son Thomas Edward (Ruth Hathaway) Beck.  She is loved and adored by her 33 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and her 40 great grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Magna Stake Center, 3084 S. 8400 W. Viewings will be held Friday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., and Saturday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: American Fork Cemetery. Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
