Candice Cay Cook Carbine, a radiant and remarkable soul whose light touched countless lives, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 in a room surrounded by her loving family.

Candice was born February 26, 1974 in Edina, Minnesota to Roger M. and Patricia K. Cook, and from her earliest years she was a ray of sunshine to all who knew her. Musically gifted and ever fearless, Candice delighted in singing and dancing for anyone who came to the house—the appliance repair man, the home teacher, friends and neighbors—if they came, she sang and danced. Her audience grew as she performed on stage in musicals such as How the Grinch Stole Christmas and South Pacific. In high school she competed in the Miss Ogden Pagent and won “most talented” for her performance of a song from Les Misérables. Throughout her life, she continued singing for family and friends and occasionally on stage with her beautiful alto voice.

Growing up, she had a fierce love for her family and found great joy spending time with them—going on walks with her grandpa Cook, sharing snacks with her dad on car trips, joking around with her mom and sisters, and being entertained by her brothers.

Candice graduated from East High School with the class of 1992. In 1999 she moved to West Jordan, Utah, where she met her sweetheart Michael Dean Carbine. They were married April 25, 2001 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Candice and Mike welcomed two children into their family: Randall Michael in 2002 and Emma Catharine in 2005. She was an affectionate and devoted mother and wife, and her children were her greatest source of joy and pride.

Candice’s caring nature also served her well during the many years she worked for the Marriott Executive Offices, where she excelled in her career and made many close friends.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Candice served in many church callings over the years, including her favorites as Primary Chorister and Young Women’s President.

Wherever she went, Candice was known for her bright and optimistic personality, her eloquence and quick wit, and her kindness and warmth. She had a way of making everyone feel special, and she had a unique gift for helping others see their own strengths and worth. It was impossible to spend time with Candice without feeling loved, and almost as impossible to be her friend without receiving a nickname. She would never say goodbye without first giving words of encouragement such as “You’ve got this,” or “Trust yourself,” or “I support you no matter what.” Even in her final months as she battled illness and prepared to say her final earthly goodbyes, she remained the very essence of charity, compassion, and grace, giving her light to those in need instead of focusing on herself. Her life was an inspiration of faith, optimism, and pure love.

Candice is survived by husband Michael, children Randy and Emma, mother Patricia Harris (Roy), siblings Whitney Cook (Dave), Jay Cook, Brandon Cook, Chelsea Wilson (James). She is preceded in death by her father, Roger M. Cook.
