Our husband, father, grandfather, and brother Carl Riley Faulkner, 69, passed away June 13, 2016 from the effects of cancer.
Carl was born on February 8, 1947 to Charles Huston and Dortha Taylor Faulkner, the 12 th of 13 children. His childhood was spent in Salt Lake City and at his grandparents’ home in Loa, Utah. He graduated from South High School and attended the Church College of Hawaii prior to serving in Vietnam. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Colorado-New Mexico Mission, then continued his education at BYU. He married Catherine Ann Smith in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 9, 1973. They have seven children; Joshua (Michelle), Ashley, Jared (Katherine), Amberlee (Matt) Nelson, Jennie (Preston) Minor, Justin (Brianne), and Catherine “Katie” (Brock) Southwick, and 24 grandchildren.
Carl was a builder, real estate broker, and entrepreneur. More importantly, he spent his life in the service of others and our Lord. He served in several capacities throughout his life including bishop of the Orem 93 rd Ward and Stake President during the creation of the Eagle Mountain Utah stake. He saw much growth while serving in this capacity and loved his experiences. He served as President of the Chile Osorno Mission from 2005-2008 with his sweet Catherine as his companion. He loved the missionaries and the Chilean people with whom he served.
Carl is preceded in death by his daughter Ashley; his parents; parents-in-law, Douglas H. and Barbara B. Smith; and his brothers Charles, Billy, Bob, Merrill, Franklin, and Doug. He is survived by his eternal companion Catherine; his children and grandchildren; sisters; Carol Floyd and Mona Hewlett, brothers; Glade and Hugh, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members. He loved his family with all of his heart.
The family would like to thank the staff at Huntsman Cancer Center; the staff at First Choice Hospice; and the members of the Salem 9 th ward for their loving care of our parents.
