David “Spike” Glen Sargent
“Once a Pirate Always a Pirate”
Our loving father, grandfather, brother & friend David Glen Sargent passed away March 5th, 2021 from Covid 19. Dave was born September 23rd, 1952 to Glen & Teresa Sumsion Sargent. Dave moved to Magna in the 4th grade and made many lifelong friends. He graduated from Cyprus High School in 1970. After a leap year he decided to join his buddy John Sudbury at SUU and graduated in 1975. Once he graduated, he decided to come back to Magna. He tried his hand at teaching but decided to go to work for Beehive Clothing. Once he landed there, he made a career out of it and was able to retire in 2012. He married Patricia Lee Bingham April 23rd, 1976 (later divorced). From this union they had 3 children Josh, Derek, & Staci. He was so proud of all of his children and loved to support them in everything they did.
Throughout his life Dave loved to travel. He had traveled from coast to coast watching many sporting events. One of his favorite things was taking his children and their spouses on these trips with him. His most favorite spot to go was Lake Tahoe. He was lucky enough on one of his trips to meet two amazing people Sonny & Carla. They continued to meet in Tahoe regularly until he contracted West Nile virus, which slowed down his travel a bit and then the Covid pandemic hit. They were able to continue their special friendship and enjoyed many Facetime interactions.
We will all miss Pop’s/Dave’s daily phone calls. We will miss the way he answered the phone and the way he said goodbye. During these conversations the summaries of the daily sporting events that he watched were the highlight of our conversations with him. His radiant personality will live on through his children and grandchildren forever.
Survived by his children, Josh (Tara), Derek (Misty), and Staci (Joshua); grandchildren Carter, Easton, Tyler, Gaege, and Alicia. Siblings, Paul (Jayne) & Scott (Lynell) and former wife Pat Sargent. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces and many lifelong friends. Preceded in death by his parents Glen and Teresa and his Daughter in-laws’ parents, Bert & Pat Walk.
We would like to Thank, John and Jackie Sudbury for the weekly Sunday dinners that “Spike” enjoyed and looked forward to. His friend Sonny and Carla for always checking on him and making him laugh. Staci for doing his weekly shopping for him. Ryan & Amy McMullin for those calls just to check on him and helping to know he was safe. IMC Hospital for taking such good care of him and the Nursing staff and Providers for the compassion that you showed to his family throughout this difficult time.
