David Lynn McCleve was born on August 26th, 1954 in Granger, Utah, and lived a life full of love and laughter until he passed away suddenly on July 17th, 2023.
Dave married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Cynthia “Cindy” Berland, on February 3rd, 1973 and they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on September 6th, 1975.
Dave is survived by his wife Cindy, and the family they raised together: Jayson (Angie), Tennille (Kurt), Richard (Jen), Mike (Michelle), Jeff (Chelsea), and Aubrey (Logan). They have fifteen beautiful grandchildren: Zac, Megan, Preston, Conner, Kayla, Gage, Jaxon, Brooklynn, Emilee, Brielle, Bailee, Ryder, Parx, Blake, Cohen, and bonus granddaughter Kaylee, who all love and will dearly miss their Papa Mac.
Dave was the son of James “Duane” McCleve and Carol “Verree” Wightman McCleve. He was the second of six children. He is survived by his mother and siblings: Randy (Karen), Linda, Doug (Shaunna), Lisa, and Kelly (Annette).
His father Duane passed away in 2017, and we like to imagine that they shared a tender reunion, where they probably reminisced about family, hunting, playing cards, and golfing.
Our dad and Papa Mac will be fondly remembered for the countless hours he spent coaching and playing sports, attending many plays, musicals, recitals, sporting events, and rodeos, as well as taking us camping and boating every summer for years. He also loved to spend time in the pool with his grandkids.
Dave was the owner and operator of a successful tile business, McCleve Tile Inc., which he inherited from his father. His company gained a positive reputation for the high-quality work that they produced, thanks to Dave, his partners, his sons, grandsons, and several others who contributed to its success throughout the 50 plus years that he was involved in it.
Dave was a cowboy through and through. His barn was both his happy place and his biggest headache. If you know our dad, you know he couldn’t sit still, and he felt the need to always be working on a task–and his barn gave him endless tasks. At any given time, you could find him at the barn feeding, grooming, throwing hay, working on the bobcat, or any of the other countless tasks that needed to be done.
He also loved spending time with Cindy and their friends, going on trail rides, team penning, riding with the Silver Spurs, and going on cruises. For several years, he and Cindy also found great joy in serving the young men in DT. They learned to truly love and connect with those whom they served and served with, and would have stayed in that position forever if they could have. They also regularly found joy volunteering to feed homeless youth in Salt Lake.
Dave will be remembered most for how fiercely he loved his family. He was absolutely someone you wanted in your corner. He was the greatest defender, protector, and advocate for those he loved. He had a major soft spot for his children and grandchildren. His greatest love of all was his sweet wife, Cindy, followed closely by his children, grandchildren, his horse Santana, and his dog Oliver. Cindy was, and will always be, his everything. He will forever be greatly loved and missed by all who knew him.
