Dennis Leon Twitchell
1942 ~ 2012
Dennis Leon Twitchell "Big Papa", age 69, passed away peacefully at home after a long, hard and valiant battle with cancer on January 21, 2012. Born February 8, 1942 in Richfield, Utah to Agustus "Gus" and Lavina Twitchell. He was the eldest of five children. Dennis married Linda Ann Stoker in 1963 and later divorced. Together they had two children: Gary Twitchell and Mike (
Dennis was an owner operator of his own trucking company for many years and had a keen sense of hard work and getting the job done. He always worked hard to provide for his sons and did all he could to instill in them his same work ethics. Dennis was an amazing Grandpa to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He took great interest and pleasure in the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and will be missed by each and every one of us. He loved his family with such extreme passion and he also had a great respect and appreciation for his friends. He was always happy to share anything he knew with everyone and the one thing he loved sharing the most was his love of trains. It didn't matter where you were with Dennis, if he saw a train he was going to pull over and educate you on everything he knew about that train. Dennis leaves a legacy that will live eternally in his family and friends. His strong spirit and influence will be widely felt and sorely missed.
Dennis is survived by his sons: Gary Twitchell and Mike (Sharon) Twitchell; three grandchildren: Natalie (Zac) Honeycutt, Eric Twitchell and Tyson Twitchell all of whom he spoke about with such love and admiration. He had three great-grandchildren: Blaise, Kannon and Harleigh all of whom he loved deeply and treasured dearly. Brothers: David (Nedra) Twitchell and Terry (Diane) Twitchell; and a niece and many nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Lois and Rhonda.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Thomas and Wendy Boden for their dedicated friendship and love they showed to our Dad, Grandpa and Big Papa. Because of Thomas and Wendy, Dennis was able to stay in his home, manage his finances and eat a well-balanced meal every single day (with the help of Left Fork Grill). We love you Thomas and Wendy and we will never be able to thank the two of you nearly enough.
The family would also like to extend their greatest appreciation to family, friends and neighbors who visited and shared great memories of Dennis. A special thank you is also extended to Symbii Home Health & Hospice (Malissa, Angela, Lisa, Rochell and Libby) and Salt Lake Research (Dr. Richardson, Cathy & Jenny) and to Dr. Greg Miller and staff of Utah Cancer Specialists, for their tender, loving care given to Dennis. Because of each and every one of you, Dennis was able to live a longer life than expected and pass into the next life comfortably and pain free.
