Donald Loyd Petty
"Bread Man"
On April 29, 2011 Donald Loyd Petty passed away to join his parents and siblings, Darlene and Wayne who were waiting for him on the other side.
Don was born October 30, 1926 to Loyd and Alice Petty in Delta, Utah. He married Jeanne Albert July 18, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in a ceremony performed by Elder Mark E. Peterson.
Don served in the US Army during WWII in Italy. He went to welding school and at the age of 15 went to work in the shipyards. He returned to Utah, worked at various companies and retired from Kennecott Copper after 31 years. Music played a big part in his life. He played guitar and had the number one country band in Utah during the 70's. Don got his nickname "Bread Man" because he picked up surplus bread from various stores and bakeries and distributed it to the homeless. We will miss his unique sense of humor and wit, which he dished out to the very end.
Survived by his wife; children, Greg, Sandi (Dave) Thor, Pam Petty, Matt (Candie), and Mark (Andrea); grandchildren, Chad, Candice, Dallas (Melissa), Becky (Boyd), Erica, Darrell (Rainy), Jenessa, Logan, Bridger, Karli, and Raquel; 9 great grandchildren; and sister, Ina (Don) Poulsen.
The family would like to thank the VA Medical Center, especially Dr. Kurt and social worker, Kim.
