Ernest Mix was born on January 26, 1943, in Johnson City, New York to Ernest Gerald and Joy Anderson Mix. Ernie was the oldest of 3 children. His sister, Gloria Poff; and brother, Tommy both preceded him in death.
Ernie was the light of his mother's life and she was known to dote on him. He graduated from high school in 1962 and went into the Army. He served in Vietnam for 4 years. Ernie was a free spirit and one of the original “Flower Children”! He attended Woodstock in 1969 and loved to tell his family about the experience.
Ernie's son Christopher was born in 1969 on January 26th. Ernie was quite proud of the fact his son was born on his birthday. Christopher was truly a joy for Ernie. He was known to praise often the man, husband, father, and preacher that Christopher had become.
Ernie met Lynn Vance in 1983 and it was clear from the start that they were soul mates. They enjoyed 41 years of adventures, travels, and happy “home time”. He always owned a Harley motorcycle and kept up on the local shops “goings on”. He was also active in the local American Legion. He and Lynn traveled on their motorcycles all over the US, including Sturgis several times. He loved the freedom of the road and the comradery of “the Boys”. In keeping with his love of the road, Ernie drove long-haul truck for most of his life. Even owning his own business in the early 2000s.
Ernie was a step-dad to Lynn’s 3 girls, He was close to them all, especially in his later years, and was Grandpa Ernie to their children.
Ernie passed away on November 2, 2024, at the age of 81. He was not happy to be leaving so soon. He wanted to make it to 100, like his Grandfather, whom he adored.
He is survived by his love, Lynn Vance; son, Christopher (Julie) Mix; Lynn’s girls, Connie Symes, Jaylynne (Jay) Jackson, and Tammy (Len) Gasser; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Ernie has requested that he be cremated. A memorial and spreading of the ashes will be held next Spring, on the mountain that he loved.
Goodbye, sweet friend, and enjoy riding on those streets of gold!
