Frank Leonelli
1934 - 2011
Our little Italian hero passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2011. We miss him more than words can say but rejoice that he is now free from the devastation of Alzheimer's.
Frank was born July 19, 1934 in Tooele Utah to Charlie and Rose Leonelli. He graduated from Tooele High School in 1952, then proudly served in the US Navy for four years. He spent two years aboard the USS Shangri-La during the Korean War. He retired from Tooele Army Depot after 36 years of dedicated service. He married his sweetheart Gerri Riley January 24, 1959. They shared 52 devoted years and raised three loving children.
Frank was a short man in stature but a giant in character. He possessed extraordinary qualities and all who knew him regarded him as a "Good Man". He was proud of his Italian heritage, strong in his faith and defined the meaning of hard work. He was fiercely protective of his family and a great mentor to his children and grandchildren.
Our Dad was an avid golfer. He had a passion for baseball, college basketball, and Notre Dame football. He was always the #1 fan at his son's and grandson's sporting events. He loved spending time at our cabin in Pine Mountain. Dad enjoyed hunting and the many years of fishing with his family in Alaska.
Frankie was known for his quick wit and uncanny sense of humor. His positive energy enriched the lives of those around him. He left a legacy of family and long time friendships that celebrate the honor, love and integrity with which Frank led his life.
Survived by wife, Gerri; children, Michelle Lester, Frank Paul Jr. (Lari), Christopher (Heather); eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brothers, Sam and Jim; sister, Rosemary Pitt.
Our deepest appreciation to Lucy Chuculate from CNS, Joan Pfau and the entire staff from Hospice of Utah for their compassionate service. Special gratitude to our "main man", Nolan Oliver for his ability to be so caring, gentle and nurturing both to Frank and to us as a family. Thank you dear friends and family for your constant love and support on this long journey.
