Geaniel H Koolhoven
1933-2019
After a courageous battle against cancer, our Heavenly Father called one of his faithful servants back to our heavenly home on Monday March, 4th, 2019. Geaniel was born in Salt Lake City to Ralph and Fay Johnson Harper.
Her family was her most prized possession. Her courageous spirit filled everyone with hope, faith and love. Her strength as matriarch of our family will be sorely missed.
Her grandchildren were especially admired, she made each of them feel cared for and special. She loved making blankets and pillows for everyone in her family, each was made with hours of time and unconditional love.
Friendships were extremely important to her and everyone she came in contact with became a friend. Her friends and even strangers always received support, compassion, acceptance and unparalleled generosity.
Anyone who showed up at her door was always let in and of course, they never left hungry! Every visitor was offered a soft drink, cake, candy, or cookie. Many neighbors, friends and family were recipients of her yummy chicken noodle soup, cakes, brownies and pounds of potato salad.
Not being a stranger to difficulties or hard times she overcame all her trials with her tenacity and good work ethic. Her work history ranged from waitressing, grocery checker, retail clerk, to accounting and payroll. She worked many late and long hours to help provide for her family’s needs and desires.
She was an avid reader and especially loved church books and biographies. She read books quicker than she could replace them, then always generously shared or gave them away.
Mom loved serving in various church callings. She was a worker at the Jordan River Temple, a stake missionary, served a mission at the Bishops Storehouse, held various Primary callings, taught Sunday school and has been in charge of emergency preparedness. Her favorite callings were in Relief Society which offered her the opportunity to do compassionate service with so many special sisters and friends that she stayed in contact with up until her last days.
Mom leaves behind a legacy of hard work, smiles, laughter and joy through her posterity.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Fred Koolhoven, 8 Children; Eugene (Nancy) Griffith, Linda (Richard) Bennett, Dennis Griffith, Suzzanne (Gary) Frieze, Sondra (Rex) Beck, Debbie Jones, Cindy Allen, Lisa Shepherd. 21 Grandchildren and 34 great Grandchildren. Her sister Gerry Nuesmeyer, and brothers; Ralph (Chea) Harper and Ron (Sharal) Harper.
