Gordon Stanley Beck---loving husband, father, and grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin, storyteller, collector of sentimental items, and quietly a man of great charity---passed away at home surrounded by family on April 6, 2024.
Gordon was born on July 21, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah to his parents, Clifford & Ada May(King) Beck. He grew up in Magna with 5 brothers and attended Cyprus High School where he was a wrestler and developed all the wiry strength that would crush the hands of many brave young men over the years.
Gordon fell in love with his lovely wife Michele Johnson and they married on January 14, 1972. They were blessed with five amazing daughters Heidi, Holly, Heather, Haley, Hillary and their baby boy Hayden whom they raised primarily in Lake Point, Utah. Their children, in turn, have provided them with seven grandchildren two great grandchildren and another grand-daughter on the way!
Throughout his life, Gordon developed and maintained strong relationships with those that he loved, worked with, and just randomly met. He made a lasting impact on many of the youth of Lake Point over the decades as he supported scouting and other activities. Over the years Gordon would give every graduating senior in Lake Point a card and small gift. As the community grew beyond a small town he gained volunteers that would help identify the growing number of graduates each year so no one got missed whether he knew them or not. This tradition continued through his final year. Gordon loved his garden and many a neighbor enjoyed watching it grow throughout the season as at the harvest time Gordon would share the veggies of his labors throughout the town.
He loved the outdoors, fishing being one of his great loves and walking the fields trying to rustle up pheasants a close second. He loved having a good bird dog running around the property while he took care of the chickens and would do anything he could with his own two hands.
Gordon enjoyed seeing what nature had to offer and getting a good deal on a hotel resulted in many quick scenic trips with his wife for a couple days at a time. His kids were never sure when the call would come, inviting them on a random excursion where they just needed to pack up and go because the room was already taken care of.
Gordon started working at Kennecott Copper (Rio Tinto) at the age of 18 retiring after 35 years where he was Millwright by title but really was a jack of all trades. Gordon met and made many lifelong friends there and turned down other opportunities so he could be one of the guys and keep working with his hands.
As grandkids entered the picture Gordon would support them in all kinds of events even traveling across state lines to make an appearance when he could. He had many hobbies and favorite pastimes and honestly sacrificed many of them to be a provider, serve others, fix something, or complete work that needed to be done. What he always had time for though, was to call or visit his extensive list of contacts and see how things were going, just to make sure everything was okay
Gordon is survived by his devoted wife Michele, daughters: Holly Holloway, Heather (Stephen) Gillett, Haley (Alan) Long, Hillary (Gregory) Wood, and son Hayden, seven grandchildren: Madelyn, Sawyer, and Alaina Gillett, Connor (McKayla) and Jarrek Long, baby girl Wood (June 2024), Jennifer (Steve) Strieker, Cindy Holloway, and two great-grandchildren: Michael and Elizabeth Strieker. He is also survived by his brothers: Steve (Laura), Gary (Marsha), David (Mary Ann), Kelly (Ilene), and sister-in-law Ruth (Thomas).
Gordon is proceeded in death by his parents Clifford and Ada May, younger brother Thomas, daughter Heidi, and son-in-law John Holloway
The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Care, Home Health, and Hospice for all they have done over the years. (Adam, Wendy, Lindsey, Heidi, Jeni, many others, and especially McKinzie at the very end.)
