JACK  L.  CARLSON

Jack Carlson passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 following a short but vicious battle with  Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).  He was born September  11, 1951 at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake to John L. and  Loel E. (Hansen) Carlson.  The family moved to Magna  in 1959 where Jack started his education at Magna Elementary, attended Brockbank Junior High and graduated from Cyprus High in 1969.  Following high school, he served in the U. S. Army for two years spending time in both Viet Nam and Korea.  While in Korea, Jack was an Honor Graduate from I Corp Specialist Academy in communications.

After  finishing  his military commitment,  Jack  worked at the Chevron Refinery in Salt Lake City, the Kennecott Smelter and Sperry-Univac.   He attended the Utah Technical College and graduated in 1976 with a Certificate in Electricity.  Jack then began his 28-year career working as an electrician/telephone maintenance civilian for the U.S. Army in Dugway,  where he was honored by the Commanding Officer as Outstanding  Contractor Employee.   Jack  retired in 2008.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father and his brother, Jim.  He is survived by a sister, Lucy (Bob) Deaton; nephews Travis (Wendy) Deaton, John (Christina) Carlson; nieces Laura Markovich and Tricia (Douglas) Berry.

Jack's wish was to be cremated and his ashes will be scattered later this summer.  A celebration of his  life will be held in June in Tooele.
