Janet Ruth Larson Franson
Janet Ruth Larson returned to her Heavenly Father April 9, 2021, a week shy of her 85th birthday. She was born April 17, 1936 to John Allen Larson and Melva Bird Larson. She lived her entire life in Magna, Utah, still residing in the home she came home from the hospital to. She graduated from Cyprus High School in 1954. She married Ned Maxwell Franson May 17, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, later divorced. Together they had three children.
Janet was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served diligently for many years in many different organizations within the church, her most rewarding callings of which were in the Primary and Scouting. She served a Service Mission at the LDS Church offices in Salt Lake City.
She was registered with the Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years leading many boys through their ranks to attaining Eagle Scout. She loved the outdoors and camping, especially her time teaching the Scouts and taking them to Camp Tracy or to her family property in the Wasatch Mountains – she could tie any knot. She was awarded many Scouting accolades including receiving the Silver Beaver Award and also the Influential Women in Scouting Award.
She was a talented artist and seamstress and skilled in cake decorating and was always willing to share her skills. Her sewing earned her awards at the State Fair, she made many birthday cakes that will always be remembered, and her Wedding Cakes were a centerpiece for many happy unions.
She is survived by her three children, James Lloyd Franson (Wendy), Bonnies Sears (Mike) and Linda Middleton (Brent); seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Carol, and also one grandchild.
The family wants to express their gratitude to Carrie Ashwell, her niece, for her loving care of Aunt Janet during her final years and especially in her final months which allowed Janet to continue to live in her own home through the end of her life.
