Together again
Jimmie Lester Hales was born March 4, 1924 to Lester Joseph Hales and Lillian Leota Stone in Mapleton, Utah. Jimmie passed away peacefully on June 3, 2014. He married his sweetheart and singing partner, Gladys Richards on June 18, 1943. Jimmie served proudly in the US Navy during WWII, Pacific Theater. He retired from Kennecott Copper after 42 years as a chemical analyst. Jimmie lived all of his life in Magna, Utah - "Best kept secret in the West!" Faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings, including Bishop twice. He and Gladys served two missions; one in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the second mission in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Jimmie took loving care of his sweetheart Gladys while she endured Alzheimer's for 18 years. He spent the final three years of his life in the Legacy Retirement Center in South Jordan, where he enjoyed singing and reminiscing with friends he met there. Survived by his eight children: Steve (Kristine), Paul (Della), Mark, Barry (Pam), Jon (Debbie), Elva (Cory), Robyn, Brett (Cindy); 34 grandchildren and 77 great grandchildren; sister, Loa Jane Anderson; sister in law, Faye Gross Hales; brother in law, Wilbur L. Pearson. Preceded in death by wife; parents; siblings, Frances, Blanche Keiser, Arthur, Leon, James, Ronald, and Helen Pearson.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Pleasant Green Chapel, 8739 W. 3000 S. Viewing will be held Friday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., and Saturday 10-10:45 at the church. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
