Joan Gilbert

JOAN GILBERT NEWMAN

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister was called home June 26, 2010. She was born February 18, 1918 in Manassa, Colorado to John Timothy  Gilbert and Effie Henrietta Holcomb Gilbert. Joan graduated from South H.S. and then married Harold Tolman Newman October 22, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Joan worked several jobs during WWII in Magna and retired from Walgreen's Drug after 20 years of service. She was active in the LDS church and served well in every calling she served in.

Joan is survived by her daughters: Carol Christensen, Nancy (Keith) Arnold; 24 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; 33 great great grandchildren; brother, John (Esther) Gilbert; brothers-in-law: Emmett Heath, Tom Kenney. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Harold; daughter, Jane; son-in-law, Roy Ivie; grandson, Wade Christensen; great grandson, Bryce Ivie; sisters: Elvera "Betty" Kenney, Minnie "Jackie" Heath.

The family would like to thank those that helped with Joan's care especially the staff at Hazen Care Center.

Services will be 11 am, Friday July 2, 2010 at the Kearns Stake Center, 4260 West 5215 South, Kearns. A viewing will be 10-10:45 am at the church prior to services. Condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com . Interment: Redwood Memorial Park.
