Joan Maxine Wallace Goble
1943—2018
Joan Maxine Wallace Goble passed away September 22nd surrounded by love and joy and deep appreciation for her service and sacrifices. We feel an eternal gratitude for Mom, “Grandma Joan.” She was born to Glen Lewis Wallace and Hazel Maxine Gunnell March 3rd 1943 in Logan, Utah. While her father was away, fighting in the war in Europe, she was blessed, in her early years, to stay with her mother; her grandparents, Joshua Brown Gunnell and Hazel Heninger; and her aunts and uncles. Her aunt Joyce Gunnell Ensign called Joan her “fairy princess,” and Joan called Joyce her “fairy godmother.” When her father returned, a wounded veteran, he brought his family to Ogden, where they lived until a new home was built in Roy. Being the oldest, she helped her parents with her brothers and sisters and is currently survived by all of them: Lerry (Brenda), Lerene (Kevin) Tolman, Janet (James) Mayes, Peggy (Scott) Poll, Wendy Coburn, Rick (Monica). Joan graduated from Weber high school, class of 1961, and then went on to Utah State University, where she graduated class of 1966, majoring in elementary education and minoring in French. She taught second grade for five years in Roy, Utah. She was an accomplished singer and used her talents to help others understand the gospel of Jesus Christ. She married her sweetheart, Gordon Brent Goble, in the Logan temple December 29th 1969. The ceremony was officiated by her grandfather, Joshua Brown Gunnell. With Gordon, they raised four children and are survived by all of them: Robert (Mary Loch), Edwin (Krista Weber), Bonnie (Ryan Egbert) and Michael (Anna Stoddard). She loved her eighteen grandchildren and is survived by all of them: Tara (Azure Timmerman), Noelle, Charles, Ammon, Kirra, Arianne, David, Dianne, Rebecca, Kaleb, Jacob, Peter, Amanda, Dorothy, Sarah, Hazel, David Egbert, and Alexis Egbert. She loved to serve the Lord and others. Her many callings over the years included music director, teacher, librarian, nursery leader, ward extraction supervisor, and others. Though she had become unable to attend the temple due to poor health, she never wanted to be without a current recommend. She endured many hardships over the years and took care of Gordon as his health deteriorated until he passed away, October 17, 2001 at the age of 55.
