Joanne Young Gudmundson, much loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully February 19, 2016. Joanne was a woman of great strength. Throughout her life she successfully fought off cancer multiple times. However, the cancer proved relentless and she could fight it no more.
Joanne was the youngest of Silas M. and Ida Perry Young’s six children. She was born November 5, 1952 in Tooele, UT. As a child she always preferred making mud pies to wearing skirts and was a real “livewire” by her own account. She graduated in 1971 from Tooele High School and later served an LDS mission in Tennessee and Kentucky. She worked as a dental assistant for many decades. However, it was her role as mother of which she was most proud. She was an outstanding mom who truly gave her all to her daughter. She adored her two grandsons and spoiled them shamelessly, as good grandmothers should, and they loved her dearly in return.
Joanne is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her siblings; Robert (Donna) Young, Richard (Laurel) Young, Karen (Carl) Christensen, Janet (Robert) Everett, James (Carol Ann) Young; by her daughter, Stacy (Kenneth) Given; by her grandsons; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
No public viewing will be held. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 25, 2016, 11:00 am at the Tooele Stake Center: 253 South 200 East, Tooele, UT. Interment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery.
