John Peter Backman III

"Jack"

MAGNA- John Peter Backman III died peacefully at his home on July 3, 2010 with his family by his side from complications of Corticalbasal Neurodegenerative Disease. Born April 7, 1937 to John Peter II and Doris Evelyn Bingham Backman in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married the love of his life, Susan Blanche Welcker on June 27, 1958 in Magna. They spent 52 wonderful years together, and were blessed with four children.

Jack served honorably in the US Army. He owned and operated Backman's Sinclair Service for many years and then worked for and retired from Jerry Seiner Chevrolet. He was a well respected Master Mechanic and made many lifelong friends whom he considered family. Jack dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them at their cabin in Weber Canyon.

He is survived by his wife; children, Jeff (Diane), Randy (Penny), Rhonda (Kevin) Meeks, and Darren; his part time dog, Buster; 9 grandchildren, Levi Backman, Zach Backman, Callee Backman, Lyndi (Jeff) Porter, Camille (Blake) Tripp, Landon Backman, Jake Meeks, Kattrina (Bryan) Holt, and Jason Meeks; five great grandchildren, Kylie Holt, Paiton Backman, Ethan Holt, Ryan Backman, and Lilyana Dunn-Meeks; brother, Bryan (Leslie) Backman; sister, Debbie Jensen; brothers-in-law, Bob Barton and  Louis Welcker; sister-in-law, Darlene Welcker;

and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Valerie Rushton and Sandra Barton; and great grandson, Blake Tripp Jr.

The family would like to thank the V.A. Hospital, Community Nursing, and especially, Marta, Frank, and Tom.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday. July 7, 2010 at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, where friends may call both Tuesday 6-8 pm and Wednesday 11-11:45 am prior to services. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park. Condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
