1921 ~ 2014

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John Edmund Evans passed away February 15, 2014. He was born June 17, 1921 in Magna, UT to James E. and Dorothy Ellen Beagley Evans. He married Bernice Hales June 10, 1940 in Salt Lake City; their marriage was sealed in the Logan LDS Temple July 9, 1940. He served in the US Army during WWII, and retired from Kennecott Copper after 42 years of service. John was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings, including Bishop of the Pleasant Green 1 st Ward and 2 nd counselor in the Oquirrh Stake Presidency. After retirement he and Bernice served a mission in Charlotte, NC. John had a passion for baseball and played on Kennecott's international team. He is survived by his wife; children, Arlene (Leon) Robinson, Linda (Roy) Christensen, Richard (Sheri), Anita (Kim) Openshaw, and David; 22 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Jimmy; sister, Dorothy; and grandson, Cody. Special thanks to Bobbie Dean & Belinda Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Magna Stake Center, 3084 S. 8400 W. Viewing will be held Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., and Thursday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
