Joshua Bruce Darby
1974-2022
Josh died peacefully on 09 May 2022 at the University of Utah Medical Center after a yearlong struggle with cirrhosis of the liver and colon cancer. He was born on 18 March 1974 to Robert Darby and Gaylene Anderson and they all moved to Magna in 1977 where Josh grew up.
Josh is a baptized member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but was always an independent individual who insisted on doing things his way. He made many friends while attending Cyprus High School but didn’t graduate until he wanted to join the Navy (who required a high school diploma). He attended night school in the Granite School District until he graduated, got his diploma and entered the Navy 23 March 1995. After boot camp he was assigned to the USS John C. Stennis, CVN 74, and was a “plank holder” on America’s newest, at the time, warship. He was separated from the Navy on 20 February 1998 and honorably discharged on 7 March 2003 after serving his obligated reserve time. He was always proud of his service to the USN and this great country. He worked several jobs after his separation trying to establish himself and figure out what he liked doing. During this time he made many friends working at companies like Osmose Utilities Services, Rhine Construction, and BH Incorporated. He enjoyed his jobs in the construction trucking industries the most and said, “the best thing about my job is driving a truck and the worst thing about my job is driving a truck”.
In 2007 Josh found out he was the father of a six year old son named Gabriel. After an initial period of time, Josh become the primary parent and raised Gabe until Gabe moved back to Kentucky with his other grandfather in 2021.
Josh is survived by Gabriel, his siblings Jeremy Darby (Nicole), Emery Darby (Alison), Joel Darby, Jessica Casillas (Jack), Tiffany Darby (Timon Martin), his mother and father, and numerous nieces and nephews.
