July 17, 1978 - March 22 2013

Lieutenant Joshua Ryan Wall, United States Navy, passed away unexpectedly March 22, 2013 while assigned to the Joint Interagency Task force South in Key West, Florida where he served as a Command Duty Officer.  Lieutenant Wall served his country with distinction and honor seeking to stop the flow of illegal drugs in the Western Hemisphere.  Josh was our strength, our inspiration and our example and he had the ability to draw our family closer together, we are less without him.  His sly sense of humor always made us smile. Josh was born in Payson, Utah on July 17, 1978 the first born son of Brett and Jolene Wall.  Josh grew up in Magna, Utah where he graduated from Cyprus High School as valedictorian. Josh always had a strong sense of right and wrong and we often referred to him as the conscience of our family. Josh was gifted with a sharp mind and a strong sense of discipline. He knew how to work hard and understood the value of hard work, and did so from a very young age. After graduation from Cyprus High School Josh entered the University of Utah majoring in chemical engineering and at the same time, he went to work full time for Pioneer Refining Services. After two years of this rigorous schedule, Josh put aside his work and his education, and accepted a call to serve a two year Spanish speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Diego, California. While on his mission Josh developed a great love and empathy for the Spanish people. Upon completion of his mission, Josh returned to the University of Utah and to his job at Pioneer Refining Services.  During his last year at the University of Utah, Josh applied for and was accepted into the Navy's Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program.  Josh completed the requirements for his degree in chemical engineering and then entered Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.  He was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy on January 6, 2006. Josh then entered and completed the Navy's Nuclear Power School in upstate New York, then traveled to South Carolina to begin Naval Nuclear Submarine Officer Training. Josh received his dolphins and was assigned to the ballistic missile submarine the USS Alaska (SSBN 732), (Blue crew).   During his three years on the USS Alaska he served as the Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant, the Quality assurance Officer, the Assistant Engineer and as the Tactical Systems Officer.  Following his service on the Alaska Josh served as Liaison Officer for the NATO Training Mission Afghanistan at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.  After his service in Afghanistan Josh received his current assignment with Joint Interagency task Force South in July of 2011 and where he was serving at the time of his death. Josh loved the outdoors and spent many hours hiking, rock climbing and traversing the slot canyons of Southern Utah.  He was certified as a scuba diver and as a sky diver.  He also enjoyed road trips in his Z06 Corvette with his father and just being together with his family. Josh is survived by his parents, Brett and Jolene Wall; his grandparents, Don and Noel Wall and David and Ann Garbett; his siblings, Lance (Kristy), Haylee (Billy), Lucas (Clarissa), Cambria and Zachary; and by his nieces and nephews, Zoe, Preslee, Oakley, Phrankee, Brodee, Traxton, and Bentley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Preston. Josh's family would like to thank the men and women who served with him at the Joint Interagency Task Force South for all their support during this difficult time and especially for their continued service to our country. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday April 6 ^th , 2013 at 11:00 AM at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W 2700 S Magna, Utah, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.  If you served with Josh in the Navy, or on his mission, or at PRS, you are welcome to attend.  Interment will be in Pleasant Green Cemetery with full military honors.  Flowers may be sent to Peel Funeral Home.
