Joyce Garrard Hammond passed away on October 3, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born, along with her twin sister Janice, on January 22, 1947, in Tooele, Utah to Kenneth and Eudean Garrard. Joyce graduated from Tooele High School in 1965 and married Richard Hammond, the love of her life, in 1967.
Joyce was in the restaurant business all of her working life. Joyce and Richard owned and operated a restaurant called “The Kettle” in Sandy, Utah for almost 10 years. Later on, they moved to Orem, where they lived most of their lives, and worked for “JB‘s” restaurant at the University Mall until it shut down. She went on to waitress at “TGI Fridays” and “Galaxy Diner” until her knees gave out and she retired to stay home and be a grandma. She loved playing “Old Maid” and “Go Fish” with her grandkids and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She loved serving in her callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved genealogy. She was known for her quilting, sewing, and crafting, and made many memorable pieces that have been held on to by many throughout the years. Mostly she loved being a twin. She had a built-in best friend that she adored.
Richard and Joyce moved to Lehi, Utah six years ago and she has been lovingly cared for by her husband as dementia has slowly taken away her spark.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Richard; son, Chris (Katrina) Hammond; daughters, Kelli (Sebastian) Bone and Kimberlee (Chris) Mitchell; 11 grandchildren that she loved very much; twin sister, Janice (Craig) Bush; sister, Billie (Scott) Hubbard; brothers, Mike (Terri) Garrard and Matthew (Julie) Garrard. Preceded in death by her parents.
We want to express appreciation to all of the CNAs and nurses at Health Watch and Valeo Home Health who have cared for Joyce through the years.
