Judy Deon Bair Elieson
1951-2024
Judy, 73, passed away in Magna, UT on December 30, 2024. Judy was born on April 20, 1951, in Rupert, Idaho to Leon and Mary Bair. Judy married Mark Elieson on January, 25th, 1975 in Springfield, Idaho.
Judy's many accomplishments in life included a lifetime of service to the LDS church where she served as the organist in almost every ward she attended. As a BYU graduate, she was often the brains of the operation. She proofread, edited or simply wrote every report, speech, and project for the whole family. Judy's interest in history and her habit of reading anything that was lying around gave her an expansive knowledge that helped three boys get through school and helped four men through their careers.
As a very supportive mother, Judy didn't ask a lot of questions about what hair color, different clothes, or tattoos the kids were interested in over the decades. She just smiled and knew that she and Mark had raised them with the tools and talents to succeed. She was very proud of her boys and their accomplishments and wasn't shy about saying so.
She was a master seamstress and in the course of her sewing career, she helped produce some of the most recognizable college and professional sports mascots in the country. Her children and grandchildren always had some of the best and most creative costumes. For the last 20 years of her professional life, she worked for the Utah Department of Corrections at the state prison as a clerk and office manager.
With her entrepreneurial drive and 'pioneer' determination, Judy always had a side project to work on for a little extra money for vacations and fun. Whether it was sewing and selling puppets at local fairs and festivals, chainsaw carving bears and other statuary, crocheting Afghans, or making quilts and blankets. Her hands and her creative mind were always working.
Her love of the outdoors often took the family on trips to Yellowstone, all over Utah, Idaho, and beyond. She organized and planned trips that got many of us to see things we never would have without her. From Alaskan cruises and scenic drives with Mark to family road trips through Glacier National Park, she just wanted to see everything that was out there.
Judy is survived by her husband, Mark; her brothers, Trent and Reed; her sons, Jeremy, Christopher, and Mark (Soozy); and grandchildren, Erin and Lilly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Mary; and sister, Nola.
Funeral services will be held for family only at Pleasant Green Cemetery 9200 W. 3500 S., Magna, UT at 1:00 on January 6th. After a brief service, the family is welcome to join us at her home, 2845 Buccaneer Dr., Magna, UT. Dress warm and comfortable it will be cold, the forecast calls for possible rain, snow, and wind.
This spring near her birthday, family, friends, and acquaintances will all be invited to a BBQ in her backyard to properly remember Judy and celebrate her life.
