Julie Lamb Hurst

Julie Lamb Hurst, age 65, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on June 15, 2024 after her valiant heart gave out from battling multiple auto-immune disorders.

Born on March 22, 1959 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kirt and JoAnn Davis Lamb, Julie loved being part of a big close family where she was able to go to school with many of her cousins. She was blessed to be able to be born on the same day as her loving cousins Jackie and Suzanne and their bond will forever be strong.

Julie was sealed to her eternal spouse, Hal McAfee Hurst, in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 22, 1978. The two of them loved each other deeply and created a wonderful family and shared 45 beautiful years together. Love is when being together for time and all eternity doesn’t seem long enough.

Every moment, every thought, and every ounce of love was devoted to her family. Julie was a taxi service for Hal and her kids. She was there for everything for her children and grandchildren. She attended, participated in, and made food for countless sports, dance, musical concerts, recitals, musicals, scouts, Young Women achievements, and many school and church events.

Julie was an amazing cook, musically gifted, and widely talented. Making or buying everyone’s favorite meal or treats brought her immense joy and became a part of her legacy. She was widely known for her legendary lasagna which she made for family, neighbors, and entire musical casts. She made her chicken and potato salads for family parties and events, made birthday cakes, fruit pizzas, watermelon cookies and lemon cake cookies. You never left her house or party hungry.

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Julie served faithfully in various callings, including Primary pianist, Relief Society and Young Women callings, and Cub Scout Leader. She loved playing the piano for countless church activities and family gatherings, especially when she played while her children sang. Despite her aversion to the Scout Flag fundraiser, she embraced it for the benefit of the boys she cared for, reflecting the values instilled in her by her parents and Grandpa Davis.

Julie found immense joy in being a mother and grandmother, always ensuring her home was filled with treats for her grandchildren. She made it a priority to provide holiday treats, including personal favorites, for all of them, and would mail them even if they couldn’t visit. With her playful teasing and loving heart, she created a home filled with joy and laughter for her husband, children and grandchildren, leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever.

Julie is survived by her loving husband Hal; their children, Jennifer (Steven) Diaz, Jeremy (Carrie) Hurst, Janelle Hurst, Justine (Jordan) Paoli, and Jacob (Nelly) Hurst, and her 13 grandchildren, her siblings Barbara (Kevin) Pasker, Melinda (Dalen) Slater, Clint (Becky) Lamb, and Verle Joe, who will all miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kirt and JoAnn, as well as her dear cousin Suzy.
