LaVerne Coon Empey

1920 ~ 2014

Our wonderful loving mom, grandma, great grandma and great great grandma, Effie LaVerne Coon Empey peacefully went home to the loving arms of her family that passed before her on February 25th, 2014 at the age of 93. She was born in Magna on April 28th, 1920 to James David and Alida Ek Coon.  She happily lived in Magna all of her life. She married Don Empey October 27th, 1942.  Mom was a strong hard working woman who raised her first son during World War II while her husband was serving overseas in the US Army. She worked many places throughout her life, but had a special love for the Colosimo family and working at the Standard Market. She has always been a very loving and compassionate person to her family and all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Steve (Vickie) Empey, Kent (Pauline) Empey, Ilene Empey, Julie Empey; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; 8 siblings; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A special thanks to the nursing staff at Pioneer Valley Hospital, Hazen Care Center, and Heartwood Hospice for taking such wonderful care of our Mom.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Magna Stake Center, 3084 S. 8400 W. Visitations will be held Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W.
