Leland Call Roundy was born on September 25, 1938 to Mary Fredrickson and Loren Roundy in Provo, UT. He lived 83 years and passed away on July 10, 2022 in West Valley City, UT surrounded by his family.
Due to complications in his childhood, Leland suffered some physical impairments and wasn’t able to fully operate his legs. During a surgical procedure a nerve in his right leg was accidentally severed, causing him to limp throughout his youth. For much of his life he walked with a cane. Later in life, he enjoyed attending church meetings and cruising around Lavelle Edwards Stadium at BYU football games in his motorized chair, eating candied nuts and yelling at the officials.
Leland fancied Mary Lou Weight who lived a few blocks down Center Street in Provo. After earning her degree from BYU and a year’s teaching hiatus to California, Mary Lou married Leland in May 1962. They bought a home in West Valley and had four children before Mary Lou’s untimely death in June 1978. Leland married Judith Mutrux from Missouri later that year. She was attending classes at BYU and staying with her sister over the summer just a few streets away. Leland and Judy had six children. All ten grew up together in the same home. His wife, children, grandchildren, relatives, friends, and neighbors gathered around Leland in his home during his final days.
Leland graduated from LDS Business College and found work in accounting at Tooele Army Depot, where he stayed employed for 30 years before his retirement in 1993. It’s also where he locked away the monsters from our closets and ghouls from under our beds. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served many callings, none more impactful to his life than that of Bishop. He would often reminisce of his time as Bishop, and many of his friends and neighbors still honor him with the title.
Leland is preceded in death by his beloved Mary Lou, his parents, sister Ila Rae, and his brothers David and Jay. He is survived by his wife Judy, his children, Kyle, Andrew, Kim (Jana), Kathleen (Alan), Cortney (Kayla), Jesse (Nancy), Kenneth (Jackie), Trevor (Charli), Virginia (Steve), and Melanie, his sisters Carol, Mary, and Eileen, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren with another on the way.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints missionary fund
