Mary Lou Scow Swensen, 83, passed away on February 2, 2025, in West Jordan, Utah. She was born September 17, 1941, in LaVerkin, Utah, on the kitchen table of the family home, to Mansell & Nelma Scow. She moved to Sugar House when she was 10. She was in the first graduating class of Highland High School in 1959. She met Richard Swensen at a church dance at age 19, and they were married in the Salt Lake temple a year later on June 15, 1962. When they were first married, she worked at the Mountain Bell phone company for approximately five years. Mary and Richard raised a loving family of three boys and two girls. They lived in Magna for 42 years before moving to West Jordan.
Mary was a devoted, selfless mother who cherished her kids and grandkids, She truly was a woman without guile and you rarely heard her complain. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, reading, knitting, and doing word searches. Mary was deeply involved in her community, serving in various callings such in the Primary and Relief Society, and served a mission at the family history library. She was also a dedicated temple worker, always willing to lend a hand and support others. Her warm kindness touched everyone around her, making her loved by all those who knew her.
Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years; her children, Steven (Tiffany), Mary Lynn (Shane) Mitchell, Russell (Becky), Michael (Kimberly), and Michelle (Stephen) Smith; and 15 grandkids and 4 great-grandkids.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 11 am with a viewing prior from 10-10:45 am. All services will be held at Mary's wardhouse at 9205 S. 4970 W., West Jordan, UT.
