Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Melvin Earl Bates passed away peacefully February 4, 2015 at his home in Magna, Utah after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. A special thanks to his loving wife who served him diligently with loving care through the many years. He was born on August 3, 1937 in Provo, Utah to Daniel Hyrum Bates and Mary Ellen Skinner. He married Gladys Ivie Bates August 8, 1959. Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he actively held many callings including Bishop, High Councilor and many callings with the youth. He loved the Lord and his family and dedicated his life unto Christ.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; daughters, Sherrie (Jon) Covert, Sandra (Richard) Farley, Shauna (Kevin) Gilmore; 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters, 2 brothers, and one great grandchild.
A viewing will be held Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S. Magna, Utah. Funeral services will be Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Magna LDS Stake Center, 3084 S. 8400 W., with a viewing from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
