NORMAN C DAVIES
“IF I DIED TOMORROW, I WOULDN’T HAVE CHANGED A THING”
NORMAN C DAVIES WAS BORN IN ELKO, NV TO HENRY AND FRIEDA (VOIGHT) DAVIES ON JULY 17 TH , 1935. HE WAS REUNITED WITH HIS SWEETHEART, BOBBIE, ON MAY 16, 2016 SURROUNDED BY HIS FAMILY. AS A YOUNG BOY, NORM AND HIS THREE BROTHERS WERE SEPERATED BUT EVENTUALLY WERE ADOPTED BY THEIR MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS, WITH THE YOUNGEST BROTHER GOING TO FOSTER CARE. ALL 4 REMAINED BEST OF FRIENDS THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. HIS EARLY SCHOOL YEARS WERE SPENT IN STOCKTON, CA, UNTIL HIS GRANDMOTHER TOOK A TEACHING JOB IN LAMOILLE, NV WHICH WOULD BE THE BEGINNING OF AN INCREDIBLE CHILDHOOD. NORM AND HIS BROTHERS ROAMED THE HILLS AND VALLIES OF THE RUBY MOUNTAINS EVERY SUMMER, HUNTING AND FISHING TO THEIR DELIGHT, WHILE THEIR GRANDPARENTS RAN A LOCAL MERCANTILE STORE. AFTER THE MERCANTILE BURNT DOWN, THEY MOVED TO MONTELLO, NV, WHERE HIS GRANDMOTHER TAUGHT SCHOOL IN A ONE ROOM CLASSROOM. NORM EXCELLED IN BASKETBALL WHERE HE LED HIS TEAM TO A HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP. AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, NORM BEGAN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD IN NEVADA. HE AND HIS BUDDIES OFTEN DROVE TO OGDEN, UT FOR FUN AND EXCITEMENT. ONE NIGHT IN ELKO HE ATTENDED A DANCE WITH A DATE. AT THE DANCE HE SPOTTED A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG GAL, HE WAS SO CAPTIVATED BY HER, HE TOOK HIS CURRENT DATE HOME AND RETURNED TO THE DANCE TO MEET THE LOVE OF THIS LIFE, BOBBIE DYMOCK. IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT, AND THUS BEGAN A WHIRL WIND ROMANCE WITH NORM MAKING A WEEKLY HIGH SPEED DRIVE FROM ELKO TO BOBBIE’S HOMETOWN OF TOOELE FOR THEIR COURTSHIP.
NORM AND BOBBIE MARRIED IN THE ELKO COURTHOUSE ON MARCH 24 TH , 1956, WITH NORM ARRIVING JUST IN TIME FOR THE CEREMONY AFTER HAVING JUST FINISHED AN “IMPORTANT” LEAGUE BASKETBALL GAME. AFTER THEY MARRIED, NORM CONTINUED WORKING FOR THE RAILROAD, AND THEY LIVED ON A BOXCAR STATIONED WHEREVER NORM HAPPENED TO BE STATIONED, MANY TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GREAT BASIN DESERT.
IN 1956, NORM TOOK A JOB AT KENNECOTT SMELTER AND RETIRED IN 1985.
IN HIS EARLIER YEARS NORM WAS AN AVID GOLFER AND LOVED HIS FRIENDS AT THE MEADOWBROOK GOLF CLUB, WHERE HE WON THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1966. HE WAS AN INCREDIBLE ARTIST AND WOOD WORKER MAKING BEAUTIFUL CARVINGS, CLOCKS, TABLES AND JEWELRY. HE LOVED THE OUTDOORS AND WAS AN AVID SPORTSMAN! HIS EXCELENT HUNTING AND FISHING SKILLS WERE UNPARRALLELED. HE LOVED THE DYMOCK FAMILY DEER HUNT AND FAMILY WEEKEND BARBEQUES. WHERE HIS FAMOUS BAKED BEANS WOULD DISAPPEAR QUICKLY.
IN HIS RETIRMENT YEARS, IF HE AND BOBBIE WEREN’T HEADING TO WENDOVER, THEY WOULD BE HEADING UP TO WYOMING DOWNS. ANY OTHER DAY OF THE WEEK YOU COULD FIND HIM AT WEST VALLEY BILLARDS PLAYING CARDS OR POOL WITH THIS BROTHER, HANK, AND BUDDIES. HIS LOVE OF CARDS WAS PASSED ON TO HIS GRANDCHILD AS HE TAUGHT THEM TO PLAY SUNDAY EVENINGS AFTER DINNER. ONE OTHER THING HE PASSED ALONG IS THAT CARDS ARE ALWAYS A LITTLE MORE INTERESTING WHEN THERE IS A WAGER INVOLVED!
NORM IS SURVIVED BY HIS CHILDREN AND THEIR SPOUSES, BRAD AND PAULINE DAVIES, BRENDA AND RICHARD BUTLER, HIS GRANDCHILDREN CIERRA, GENTRY, GINGER, AUSTIN, AND DESIREE AND 7 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN WHOM HE ADORED. HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY HIS BROTHER AND BEST FRIEND, HANK, AS WELL AS MANY SPECIAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
