NORMAN PERRY FITZGERALD Jr.

Our wonderful dad, grandfather, brother and uncle, Norman Perry Fitzgerald, Jr. age 85, passed away on  June 6, 2012.  He was born July 22, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Norman Perry Fitzgerald and Madoline A. Brady.  He was raised in Draper, Utah with his 8 other siblings.  Norman was proud of his Utah Pioneer heritage, including those who settled Draper. He married Tharine Melching Sept 10, 1947 in Ogden, Utah.  He served in the Navy for approximately two years then decided to join the Marine Corp for approximately 19-20 years and retired in 1972 as a Major.

After the military, he moved to Magna, Utah where he became actively involved with various committees, including SCORE, Magna FACT, and the town council.  He was considered an adopted son of Magna as he continued to participate in numerous civic affairs and church activities.

He was preceded in death by his wife, brothers: Barney and Kim Fitzgerald, sisters: Barbara Nowele, Betty Curby, and Sandra Fitzgerald. He leaves behind his children: Kathleen Reimherr (Fred), James Fitzgerald (Lynda), Toni Deveraux, Michael Fitzgerald, Chris Fitzgerald, Richard Fitzgerald (Sherry), and Scott Fitzgerald. He also leaves behind the last of his sisters: Doris Soper, Lynn Fitzgerald, and Cheryl Alpuerto. He was the grandfather of twenty-two grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Dad appreciated the words, "Tho others may scoff and jest, a life of service is the best."

We will miss you Dad, Granddad,  You gave up so much in life for your family and endured well. Know that we love you and that you are forever our hero. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Magna F-A-C-T Inc. at Transwest Credit Union, Magna.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday June 11, 2012 at the Magna Stake Center 3084 South 8400 West, Magna. A viewing will be held Sunday June 10, 2012 at Peel Funeral Home 8525 West 2700 South, Magna from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and 10-10:45 am  Monday June 11, 2012, at the church.
