1934 ~ 2012

Norman Edward Turner passed away peacefully June 15, 2012 at his daughter's home. Born July 31, 1934 to Edward E. and Irene E. (Carroll) Turner in Compton, CA, he attended Judge Memorial High School and the University of Utah, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Joined the Navy, and served aboard Aircraft Carrier USS Franklin Roosevelt, CVA 42. Norm was active in his community and was a member of the Active 20-30 Club, including International Governor. Norm began working for ITT Aerospace at VAFB (Lompoc, CA) in 1960, and was a part of the development of the U.S. Air Force Satellite and Missile program for 31 years. As a Test Documentation Supervisor, he assisted the development the "Star Wars" defense program.
Norm is survived by his three children, Raymond (Karon) Turner, Ronald (Monika) Turner, Trudy (Bradley) Ellis. He will be missed greatly by his seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) Hurlich and Dominic (Ashley)Turner, Emily Turner Tally, Audrey Turner, Trudianne, Amanda and Orion Ellis. His five great-grandchildren, Jordan Turner, Jacop and MacKenzie Hurlich, Tylar and Aidan Turner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie A. (Jones), parents, stepfather Raymond C. Karlson, son Stephen L. and half-sister Yvonne L. Turner.
A private viewing for family and friends will be held at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna, Utah, from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday 6/23/12. Interment with Military Honors will be conducted at: Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road. A gathering to celebrate Norm's life will be held at Jim's Restaurant, 3500 South and Bangerter Highway following services. Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
