Opalee Petersen

Opalee Zelma Hammons Petersen, 81, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 20 , 2017.

Opalee was born on July 17, 1936 in Barbourville, Kentucky to Rufus and Pearl Johnson Hammons. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1951 and met the love of her life Jack Alvin Petersen. Opalee married Jack on June 13 th, 1953 in Evanston, Wyoming. The Petersen’s began their life in Magna, Utah and raised four beautiful children. Opalee loved the holidays; as it gave her the opportunity to spend time with those she loved most, her family and friends. She also enjoyed camping, dancing, going on beautiful drives, taking last minute trips to Wendover, Nevada, and ending the day at Leatherby’s. Opalee grew up on a farm and was an avid animal lover, her dog Roxie never left her side.

Opalee Zelma Hammons Petersen is survived by her children Joann Mitchell, Jack Petersen Jr., Stephen Petersen and Diana Mellen, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great, great granddaughter Dehlila Opalee Roberts. Opalee is preceded in death by her parents, husband, of thirty-four years, grandson, Eric Soren Mitchell, 2 brothers.

Graveside services will be 11 am Friday October 27, 2017 at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W 4100 S, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be 6-8 pm Thursday October 26, 2017 at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W 2700 S, Magna. Condolences:www.peelfuneralhome.com
