Rex Obray age 77, of Magna, Utah passed away peacefully in his home on August 17, 2022. He was born June 30, 1945 at St. Marks Hospital of Salt Lake City, Utah. The son of Lee Obray and Lucille Coon-Obray and the spoiled younger brother of Dixie (Obray) Vaughn. He lived in Garfield Utah until the family relocated to Magna, Utah in 1955. Rex graduated from Cyprus High school in 1963 where he was a member of the swim team and fondly known as Sexy Rexy. Following High school, Rex worked a thirty-four year career in the smelter with Kennecott Copper as a Hot Metals Operator. In addition to his time with Kennecott, Rex joined the Air Force from 1965-1968 in which he served in the Vietnam War. Rex married Sherry Duckworth in 1969 and later divorced in 1982. He married Ellen McNeil in 1989.
Rex is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Leroy Vaughn and close friends Bob Harding and Jack Colona. He is survived by his loving wife Ellen Obray, three children; Justin Obray (Connie Obray), Clint Obray and Katie Obray (Corey Thrall), two step children Rick Stout (Katie Stout) and Tanya Vazquez (Prax Vazquez), eight grandchildren; Christina, Alisha, Dominic, Brittney, Mason, Sully, Hannah and Addie, two great grandchildren, beloved dog Yogi, and many friends and adopted family.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday August 22, 2022 @ 10:00a.m. at the Pleasant Green Cemetery.
All friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life from 6:00pm-9:00pm at the house of Justin and Connie.
In Lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Rex’s name. Rex was known for avidly donating to the VFW, Wounded Veterans , Firefighters and police.
