Shirlee Ann Nye

1934 ~ 2019

Shirlee Ann Westover Nye returned home to her Heavenly Father on September 3, 2019.  She was born April 8, 1934 to Arus John and Miriam Westover.  Her parents, and brother Jon, preceded her in death.  She married Eldon C. Nye in the Salt Lake Temple and they were the light of each other’s lives for 66 years.  They have five children, Karen (Gavin) LeBaron, South Jordan; Kenneth (Vickie) Nye, West Jordan; Cindy Seager (Taylorsville); Robert (Jan) Nye, Des Moines; and Sherrie (Doug) Miller, Seattle.  Shirlee has 21 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

Shirlee lived in many towns in Cache Valley and Southern Idaho before settling in Magna, where she lived for 68 years.  She worked in the Granite School District starting in food service and ending as a special education teacher at the Hilda B. Jones Center, retiring in 1995.  She served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a faithful member throughout her life.  She loved to serve others and has a special place in the hearts of the many lives she touched.  She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, serving in many positions including six years as Captain.  She loved to camp and served eight years as Assistant State Director of the Good Sam’s Club.  She loved the outdoors and camping with her family at Blacksmith Fork Canyon near Hyrum, Utah.

Shirlee and Eldon were unified in their marriage, in their love for God, each other, and their family.  They loved being together and traveled throughout the world.  They loved creating beautiful woodwork and Shirlee painted and decorated countless crafts for friends and family.  She was a wonderful cook, especially with baked goods and chocolates.  She made amazing sausage rolls that Eldon loved.  She had a bright inner light that blessed all around her, and now shines in heaven.

Shirlee spent the last year of her life at the Sheridan assisted living center where she made new friends and enjoyed the care of an outstanding staff.  The family wishes to thank the staff for their kindness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, on Tuesday, September 10 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse at 8181 West, Breeze Drive, Magna.  Viewings will be from 6:00-8:00 PM on September 9, and from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the service, both at the same church location.  Interment will follow the funeral services at Valley View Memorial Park, West Valley City, Utah.
