“What would I do

Where would I be

Without you with me

How can I breathe

Oh how can I live

Without you with me

Well, I love you

Yes, I truly do

I love you”

This is the first verse of a song I wrote for my beloved wife, shortly after we were married, a song she held dear to her heart.

Vickie, beloved wife and mother, passed away on February 4, leaving behind a legacy of family and faith. For over 40 years, she was the cherished wife of Paul, a partnership built on unwavering commitment and selfless devotion. As a mother, she gave endlessly, guiding her three children with unconditional love and sacrifice. Her love extended beyond her own family, as she opened her home and her heart to other neighborhood children who needed a place to feel safe and loved. A lifelong and faithful member of the church, she lived her life as a testament to her unwavering faith.

Vickie was born on January 5, 1953, to James Albert Raines and Mary Platt Raines in Milford, Utah where she spent her childhood. She attended Southern Utah University in Cedar City, earning her associate’s degree, which led to a career as a secretary for various companies. She spent the majority and last years of her career with Rocky Mountain Power.

Vickie was a creative person with a deep love for painting. Her home is filled with the beautiful works she created over the years. Later in life, she discovered a passion for crocheting, lovingly crafting hundreds of toys for hospitalized children. Whether with a paintbrush or a crochet hook, her hands were always at work in service to others, finding her greatest joy in bringing joy to those around her.

We know that Vickie would want to express her gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and hospice care providers who saved her life years ago and brought comfort to her in her final months. We offer special thanks to Dr. Legrande Belnap, whose skill and care saved her life in 2005, and to her kidney doctor, Dr. Gopal Chemiti, who was a dedicated and compassionate presence until her final day.

Vickie was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul; her three children, Talyla, Kira, and Deja; her two sisters, Betty and Judy; and her brother, Jim. She will be remembered forever as a kind and gentle woman who gave endlessly of herself, rarely asking for anything in return.

A viewing will be held from 10-10:45 am with a funeral at 11:00 am on Monday, February 10, 2025. The services will be held at the Hunter 27th Ward located at 4980W. 3285 S., West Valley City, UT. The interment will be at the Pleasant Green Cemetery.
