Vira Oreshych

January 14, 1938 — January 8, 2015

Our sweet beloved babushka Vira passed away on January 8, 2015 from the complications of vascular disease.

Vira Grigorivna Oreshych was born in Visokoe Village, Ukraine on January 14 th , 1938. As a child she survived a house fire, German occupation during World War II and the death of her father in the first days of war and famine of 1947. Living through this trauma cemented in her a strong anti-war belief; she used to always say “War brings famine, destruction and poverty.”  Vira had been married for 32 years and raised two children, daughter Lidiya and son Victor, who passed away last October.  She had worked in a canning plant as a factory worker doing hard physical labor until her retirement in 1993. Vira was born and had lived in the same house in her native village until 2003 when her children and grandchildren brought her to America.  She cultivated a large garden and had a small farm for most of her life, and taught her children true value of hard work, love for people and nature, and how to be a true Christian.   She was an amazing cook and a loving mother and grandmother, who dedicated her life to serving others.  She will be greatly missed by her family, who will carry on her legacy and traditions until we meet again.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Pleasant Green Cemetery, 9200 W. 3500 S., Magna, UT, with an open house will being held later Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at 450 S. 2100 W., Orem, UT. Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
