Von Kern Brown

Von died at age 93 on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in St. George, UT. He was born January 4, 1918 in Salt Lake City to George Alma and Rosa Anna Kern Brown. Von grew up in Magna; after schooling he worked at Kennecott Copper Corporation where he was a Master Machinist until he retired in 1978. He married Julia LaPrele Spratley on June 2, 1944; they are the parents of four children. After retirement, Von and LaPrele served a senior LDS mission to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They later moved to St. George where Von continued to enjoy playing golf. After the death of his wife, LaPrele, in 1995, he married Lucille Anderson, who survives Von. He is also survived by his four children: Leslie Backman (Bryan), Lyn Tolman (Glen), Julie Ridge (Douglas), and Kern Brown (Jackie), 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and brothers Wayne (Carol) and Warren (Klea). Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, LaPrele, sisters, Leah Barnes and Selma Petersen and brother, Paul Brown. He has been an example and mentor to all of his family. We will miss him, but his influence will be with us always. Funeral Services will be 12 noon, May 31, 2011 at the Magna Utah Stake Center, 3084 South 8400 West, Magna.
