William Deloy Hardman, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, in his home in Magna, Utah, surrounded by his family. He returned home to his Heavenly Father and was joyously reunited with his wife, Virginia Hardman, daughter, Cynthia Lay, parents, Parley and Lyndell Hardman, sisters and brothers, grandson, Logan Hardman, and great-grandson, Drayke Hardman.
Deloy is survived by six of his seven children, Kevin Hardman (Stephanie), Jolene Gilbert (Rick), Valerie Lux (Robert), Laura Francois (Brian), Shane Hardman (Cheryl), and Jeremy Hardman (Cory). He is also survived by his son-in-law, William Lay, husband of his late daughter, Cynthia; 25 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Deloy was born on Sept. 2, 1931, in Sterling, Alberta, Canada, the seventh of nine children. His family moved to Magna, Utah, when he was 2 years old. He married his sweetheart, Virginia, on June 26, 1953, in Tooele, Utah. They were later sealed for eternity on June 10, 1970, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Deloy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, including with his wife in the temple.
Together, Deloy and Virginia raised seven children in their humble home in Magna, Utah. Their posterity was their greatest blessing and brought them both much joy. Although Grandpa was a tough, old cowboy, he had a soft spot in his heart, especially for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and those he adopted as his own and welcomed into his home.
Deloy worked for Tooele Army Depot and Kennecott Copper. After he retired, he drove trucks and school buses.
Deloy loved camping with his family, often in the Uinta Mountains, Coons Canyon and South Willow Canyon. He loved to hunt and fish, even as he aged into his 90s. He was a farmer until the very end, planting and growing a garden and sharing his produce with family, friends and neighbors. We will miss his sweet corn and his tomatoes. He raised goats, pigs and chickens, but his passion was for his horses. He trained and raced horses for much of his life and would tell anyone who would listen about the lineage of all of his equines.
The family would like to thank his daughter, Valerie, for all the care, compassion, love, and patience she gave to Dad, and his son, Kevin, for his tireless hours of service—they were Dad’s living guardian angels. We would also like to thank other family members, friends, and hospice workers who selflessly devoted their time and energy to Dad.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the LDS chapel located at 7960 West Dalesend Drive (2895 South), Magna, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday, February, 9, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Peel Mortuary, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna, Utah, and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Valley View Cemetery.
