Winnifred Lillian May, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Magna, Utah.
Winnifred was born on August 16, 1932, in Monango, North Dakota, to Walter Sherman Cofell and Lillian Elizabeth Roehl Cofell. Her early years were filled with the values of resilience and love that would guide her throughout her life. On March 4, 1972, Winnifred married her sweetheart, James May, in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, they built a life centered on family and love.
Winnifred was a devoted mother to three children: Leonard May, Lindsay May, and Connie May. She found immense joy in her growing family and cherished her role as a grandmother to five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband James May, her son Leonard May Sr., and a granddaughter, Amber. Winnifred is survived by her daughter-in-law, Oval May (Magna); her daughter, Connie May; and her son, Lindsay May (St. George). Her legacy also lives on through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter, who will continue to honor her memory.
Winnifred’s life was a testament to boundless love and gentle kindness. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain a guiding light for all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 4th, at 2 p.m., where friends and family can gather to celebrate her remarkable life.
