Zenda Orr Ridd
1921 ~ 2014
Cedar Hills, UT-We celebrate the life of our mother, Zenda Orr Ridd who passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014. Mom was born in Jerome, Idaho on March 12, 1921 to loving parents Malcolm and Hazel Orr. Mom was raised in Magna, Utah and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1939. While in high school, mom loved playing cello in the high school orchestra and was part of a string quartet that performed at numerous events. She also met dad while attending Cyprus High School. Mom and Dad were members of the LDS church and were married in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1942. During World War II, dad enlisted in the Coast Guard and spent his active duty in San Francisco, California and New London, Connecticut. After dad was honorably discharged in October 1945, he and mom returned to Magna, Utah to raise our family. Mom spent more than 30 years working for Granite School District; first as a secretary at Brockbank Junior High School in Magna and then as a secretary in the Granite School District offices. Mom loved traveling with dad to many different parts of the country where he competed in many prestigious amateur golf tournaments. She loved the entire experience, the cities, golf courses, motels, restaurants and most of all the people she got to meet. Mom loved playing golf too. She started playing golf in 1964 and soon became well known for her smooth, silky and super extra long backswing. Her timing was impeccable, it had to be. While working in the Granite School District offices, she quickly formed her own Granite Ladies golf group. Among her fondest memories was playing golf all over the state of Utah with her Granite ladies. They really loved their golf and thoroughly enjoyed one another both on and off the links. Mom was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Throughout our childhood, mom taught us many of life's important values. It was through mom's wise council, we learned that our actions and decisions also come with responsibilities and consequences. One of her many great attributes was being non judgmental of people. She accepted them for whom and what they were. Mom always found time for her grandchildren, she loved babysitting them in their younger years. And as they grew older, she took great interest in their lives and families. When they came for visits she would always break out with a big smile and her eyes would light up. Over her wonderful 92 year life span, mom touched the lives of so many individuals. Her unconditional love and caring for her family never wavered. She was always appreciative of any small thing we did for her to make life more comfortable. Mom left us with so many wonderful memories and it's through them that she will remain with us forever. Mom was preceded in death by her parents; our father, Jack; and her sister, Ivona (Elwood) Robinson. She is survived by her sister, Velda (Bob) Harmon; sons, Craig Ridd (Joy), Kean Ridd (Jan); daughters Judith (Martin) Fallick, Jackie (Pete) Michas; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
As per her request, a private graveside service will be held at Valley View Memorial Park. Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
